Four stages of conflict

From the early work of Adam Curle and as clarifiied by JP Lederach, we can see how each conflict we encounter moves through the four stages of conflict:

Stage 1 – Education and awareness

Stage 2 – Confrontation

Stage 3 – Negotiation

Stage 4 – Where feasible, Transformation – resolving and improving our ability to function.

The key issue is how well we can move,  and how far we can get through the stages.
